Xbox Wire: Free Play Days Returns With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta, Control Ultimate Edition, Fatal Fury and More This Weekend

Xbox has kicked off another Free Play Days weekend on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, with an unusually high-profile lineup that includes access to the open beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for everyone on the platform.

The official Xbox Wire post, written by editor Danielle Partis, confirms that the Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta begins Friday, August 28 at 10 a.m. PT and is open to all Xbox players as part of Free Play Days. The beta had previously been gated behind pre-order and PlayStation early access, so the weekend gives Xbox owners their first broad window into Infinity Ward's latest shooter ahead of its October 23 launch.

For Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members, the weekend brings two additional titles: Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, which is celebrating its eighth anniversary with new in-game events and a Naruto Uzumaki (Sage Mode) DLC, and ARK: Survival Ascended, the Studio Wildcard dinosaur survival remake optimized for Xbox Series X|S and supported on Xbox Play Anywhere.

For all Xbox members — without a Game Pass subscription required — Control Ultimate Edition and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves are also free to try from Thursday, August 27 through Sunday, August 30. SNK's latest entry in the long-running Fatal Fury series arrived earlier this year and brings back South Town with its REV system and dual control schemes.

Players who want to keep the experience after the weekend can pick up the participating titles at limited-time discounts that Xbox says vary by region and product. Gamerscore and achievements earned during the free period will carry over if the player purchases the game.
