Valheim 1.0 Launches Today as Deep North Biome and Full Crossplay Go Live on PS5 and Switch 2

Iron Gate AB and Coffee Stain Publishing have shipped Valheim 1.0 today, taking the Viking survival sandbox out of Early Access after more than five years and adding the long-promised Deep North biome on day one. The 1.0 release lands simultaneously on PC (via the official Steam page), Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, with full crossplay enabled across every platform so the same shared world can host Vikings on any storefront.

Iron Gate first locked the September 9, 2026 release date during the PC Gaming Show earlier this summer, then reconfirmed it on the studio's own news page, and has now flipped the game to 1.0 on Steam and the console storefronts. The headline content is Deep North, the tenth and final Norse realm, framed by Iron Gate as a frozen land of snowy mesas, abandoned villages and ancient evils waiting for any would-be settler brave enough to set foot on its shores. Players arriving in Deep North will first push through an impenetrable snowstorm, then wake up to a tundra of frozen stillness, abandoned settlements, and new threats designed as the closing chapter of the procedurally generated world map.

Beyond Deep North, 1.0 introduces new enemies, new weapons, fresh building pieces, additional crafting stations, and the higher $29.99 price point Iron Gate flagged ahead of launch. The console editions are new: PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 are first-party console launches for the survival game, joining the existing Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions, with cross-platform multiplayer unified through Coffee Stain's online services so friends can build, sail, and raid together regardless of hardware.

Valheim originally entered Early Access on February 2, 2021 and built a long tail through major biome updates including Mistlands and Ashlands, amassing hundreds of thousands of very-positive user reviews on Steam. The 1.0 release is being treated by Iron Gate as the conclusion of that early-access arc rather than a sequel or paid expansion; future content is expected to be smaller additions rather than full biomes.
