The Division 2's Next Expansion Is Echoes of Central Park, With a Full Reveal Set for September 24

Massive Entertainment has officially confirmed Echoes of Central Park as the next major expansion for Tom Clancy's The Division 2. The Swedish studio unveiled the title and the first narrative details during a Division 2 community panel at Gamescom on August 26, 2026, and a full gameplay showcase is now locked in for September 24.

In the post-outbreak timeline of The Division 2, Central Park was used as a mass burial ground during the original Green Poison outbreak, and years later its current state remains unknown. Echoes of Central Park treats the park itself as the central mystery: Agents will respond to distress reports, prepare their loadouts, and eventually step inside the park to find out what has been growing there since the outbreak took hold. According to the official Division 2 at Gamescom recap, the expansion "leans into a darker atmosphere, where fear can be just as dangerous as any enemy" — a deliberate step away from the traditional Division mission structure, with investigation, environmental dread, and collectibles (echoes, audio logs, themed backpack trophies, and named item drops) layered into the open-zone exploration.

The reveal was confirmed independently by IGN, which framed the expansion as a darker-toned chapter in which "neither players nor their in-game avatars [are] sure about what's inside or what Central Park has been like since the outbreak." Massive has scheduled a dedicated Echoes of Central Park Showcase for September 24 at 9 AM PT / 6 PM CEST, where the studio plans to reveal more of the new location, the threat Agents will face, and how the fear-and-mystery design will change the usual open-world pacing.

Echoes of Central Park is part of a wider Year 7 push from Massive and Ubisoft for The Division 2 that was also laid out at Gamescom. Alongside the DLC title, the studio confirmed Crossplay is coming to The Division 2, and that Red Horizon — the next major seasonal update — is on the way, bringing a Pressure Gauge-driven seasonal modifier system, the new Ember Engine Gear Set, Exotic Fafnir shotgun, Exotic Iron Will chest, four new Named weapons and gear pieces, the Toxic Dark Zone as a permanent PvE variant, and a new Blackout Dark Zone without stat normalization. The full breakdown is live on the Division 2 Steam News hub.

For now, Massive is keeping the exact release window for Echoes of Central Park under wraps until the September 24 showcase. Agents who want to get a head start on the lore can already comb the existing open-world map for the echoes and audio logs that are being seeded in preparation for the expansion, and the showcase stream will give the first real look at the park's new look — and whatever has been spreading inside it.
