Super Bomberman Collection Adds Panic Bomber W as Free Update, Marking First Western Release of the 1995 Super Famicom Puzzler

Konami has released a free update for Super Bomberman Collection that adds Super Bomberman: Panic Bomber W to the compilation, marking the first time the 1995 Super Famicom puzzle spin-off has ever received an official English-localized release outside Japan. The update is live today, August 20, 2026, on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Panic Bomber W slots into the collection as the eighth title, alongside the five Super Bomberman games and the two Famicom-era Bomberman entries. It carries the same English localization the rest of the compilation received at launch in February 2026, when Konami surprised players by releasing Super Bomberman Collection the same day it was announced during a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.

The game itself is a competitive puzzle title for up to four players. Players stack falling coloured blocks and detonate them by lining up same-coloured tiles, mirroring the puzzle-action loop of Dr. Mario or Puyo Puyo. Successful chains award Big Bombs that can be hurled at opponents, sending rubble across to their screen and turning clean matches into full-on attacks. The new entry does not include the collection's new Boss Rush mode because the original Panic Bomber W has no boss content, but it does pick up the rest of the package's quality-of-life features, including save-anywhere, a rewind function, and adjustable screen filters.

Panic Bomber originally launched on PC Engine in Japan in 1994 and was ported to the Super Famicom as Panic Bomber W the following year. While the PC Engine version eventually reached Western audiences through the Wii U Virtual Console in 2017, the Super Famicom build stayed Japan-only for three decades. Today's update brings that version West for the first time. Players who already own Super Bomberman Collection on any of the listed platforms can download the update at no additional cost.

The compilation is also still the easiest way for Western players to play Super Bomberman 4 and Super Bomberman 5, two SNES entries that were Japan-exclusive until the collection launched earlier this year.
