Stranded Deep 2 Reveals Desert Wilderness Setting, Targets 2027 Steam Early Access

Two years after first announcing the sequel alongside its new Prague development studio, North Beach Games has lifted the curtain on Stranded Deep 2 with the first real look at the game. Today's reveal teaser drops the original's ocean-and-islands framing in favor of an entirely new setting: a scorching desert wilderness shaped around an endless river that runs through canyons, dunes, lakes, and open prairies. The Steam page has gone live alongside the Steam PvE Survival Crafting Fest, and a developer blog from creative director Sam Edwards confirmed the new direction on the official site.

Stranded Deep 2 is being built by North Beach Games Prague, the studio the publisher set up in 2024 with Sam Edwards — co-creator of the original Stranded Deep — as its CTO and creative director. The sequel is set to enter Steam Early Access in 2027, with console versions planned for later. North Beach Games is funding and publishing the project, marking a deeper move into internal development for a publisher best known for publishing 7 Days to Die and The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.

Players will navigate the river by kayak or raft, and the world is built around a growing library of handcrafted content layered over the procedural landscape so the journey keeps producing new locations, wildlife, and crafting opportunities rather than repeating terrain. The teaser introduces mobile bases — floating homes you can build on the river and take with you as you move to the next stretch of wilderness — and a revamped Cartographer 2.0 system for building and sharing custom locations across platforms. Co-op is being developed as a first-class feature, though specifics on player counts and matchmaking have not yet been detailed.

According to the press release, the desert is "only the beginning." The team describes the experience as a frontier exploration survival game in which players start as survivors, grow into explorers, and gradually discover that there is far more to the world than simply staying alive. Survival systems — health, hunger, thirst, and exposure — carry over from the original, while crafting has been reworked so that the materials players gather directly shape the tools and structures they build. The world itself reacts to players through dynamic water and terrain, with the ability to dig into the landscape, redirect the river, and reshape the environment around a base.

The reveal lands as part of Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest, with the Stranded Deep 2 Steam page now accepting wishlists. A full release window beyond the 2027 Early Access target and any platform announcements beyond PC have not been disclosed. Console support is described as "planned for later" without a confirmed date or platform list.

Stranded Deep 2's first proper showing comes alongside a busy stretch for survival-crafting news. The Stranded Deep 2 dev blog and the North Beach Games press release both went live today, August 31, 2026. The Steam page is now accepting wishlists at https://store.steampowered.com/app/3976770/Stranded_Deep_2/, and the official developer blog detailing the new setting is live on the Stranded Deep 2 site at https://strandeddeep2.com/blog/new-ground. The full reveal trailer is available on YouTube via the official Stranded Deep 2 channel.
