Sony Confirms Two Back-to-Back State of Play Broadcasts for September 3, Closes With Final Fantasy VII Revelation

PlayStation has locked in its next showcase for Thursday, September 3, with two back-to-back livestreams on the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels, the company confirmed on the PlayStation Blog.

The main State of Play will feature updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, and will close with an extended look at the world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation from Square Enix. Immediately after, a new episode of State of Play Japan, again hosted by Yuki Kaji, will run with deep dives into upcoming games from studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay and announcements.

Both broadcasts go live at 6:00am PT / 9:00am ET / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST on September 3, according to the official PlayStation Blog post. The main State of Play airs in English with Japanese subtitles; State of Play Japan airs in Japanese with English subtitles.

The September 3 State of Play lands roughly two weeks after Sony used the gamescom Opening Night Live window to spotlight 19 third-party titles heading to PlayStation, including LEGO Batman, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Code Vein II. With Marvel's Wolverine still on track for September 15, fans are watching whether Sony uses the broadcast to firm up dates and windows for first-party projects that have been quiet since the June State of Play, including Until Dawn 2 and the next look at Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Square Enix has already positioned Final Fantasy VII Revelation as its centerpiece for the Tokyo Game Show cycle, and an extended reveal in the closing slot of the main State of Play suggests Sony is locking arms with the publisher ahead of that show. State of Play Japan is expected to keep its usual mix of regional deep dives and partnership news rather than major first-party reveals.

Sony's post also includes the standard co-streaming and VOD advisory: the broadcast may include licensed music outside Sony's control, so creators saving VODs or reposting clips are advised to skip any copyrighted tracks.
