Sea of Thieves August 2026 Update Adds Custom Seas, Blunderbuss Healing and New Live Events
Rare's August 2026 update for Sea of Thieves is live on PS5, Xbox and PC, introducing Custom Seas toggles, a friendly Blunderbuss perk, fresh cosmetics and new Live Events as part of the free update roadmap.

Rare has rolled out the August 2026 Update for Sea of Thieves, the latest free content drop for the shared pirate adventure on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Battle.net. The patch, published as version 3.8.2, introduces Custom Seas toggles that let crews reshape individual rule sets in their session.
The headline addition is a suite of Custom Seas toggles that let players opt into specific rule changes rather than all-or-nothing Adventure or Safer Seas modes. The official August 2026 Update Trailer, posted by the Sea of Thieves YouTube channel today, teases one example: the Blunderbuss can now be tuned to heal other pirates in range, hinting at a more cooperative sandbox for crews that want to lean into support play.
Alongside the ruleset tools, the update brings a new wave of cosmetics and a refreshed Live Events lineup. Rare has framed August as a "more of an Adventure mode marauder" update in the trailer copy, with the cosmetics and events aimed at crews who want set dressing as well as mechanical changes.
The full patch notes, including the precise Custom Seas options, event schedule and any platform-specific fixes, are listed on the official release notes page that the trailer links to directly.
The August 2026 Update trailer is available now on the official Sea of Thieves YouTube channel. Players on every supported platform can download the patch immediately and start tinkering with their own Custom Seas presets.
