Nintendo Switch 2 Leak Claims New Super Smash Bros. and Nintendogs Are in Development

A YouTube commenter with a growing track record on Nintendo scoops is now claiming that two long-requested franchises are heading to Switch 2. VICE reported on September 5, 2026, that an account called malo932 says Nintendo is building an entirely new Super Smash Bros. title for Switch 2 and reviving the dormant Nintendogs series, with both projects in development ahead of the company's back-to-back Nintendo Direct broadcasts on September 8 and 9.

The Smash Bros. claim is the headline. Responding to a fan who asked about a possible Switch 2 port of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, malo932 wrote on YouTube that no such port is in the works, and that a brand-new entry is being built instead. According to VICE's report, the user said directly: "No, a new Smash is in the works." That phrasing rules out the most widely expected outcome, a Switch 2 edition of the 2018 fighter, and points to a ground-up sequel.

The Nintendogs tease is more cryptic. In an August YouTube comment that initially flew under the radar, malo932 wrote that a "forgotten" cozy Nintendo series was coming back, closing the post with repeated references to barking and a "woof woof" sign-off. VICE noted that the insider never typed the word "Nintendogs" outright, but the canine clues left little room for alternate interpretation. Nintendogs originally launched on Nintendo DS in 2005 and sold more than 23 million copies before going dormant.

The same leaker has also pointed to a new 3D Mario game reportedly targeting a 2027 launch, a possible new Wario Land title also aimed at 2027, and a Super Metroid remake that is described as "close" to being finished, per VICE's reporting.

Neither Nintendo nor any of the original developers has commented on the claims, and VICE itself is explicit that malo932's track record, while increasingly accurate, is not a substitute for an official announcement. The outlet writes that all of the insider's claims "should be taken with a major grain of salt until Nintendo makes an official announcement."

What gives the leak more weight than usual is the leaker's hit rate. VICE reports that malo932 has surfaced more than five major Nintendo titles correctly over the last six months, and that the account beat established insiders like NateTheHate to the Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox back in March 2026. Both of those projects were later confirmed by Nintendo. The account also called the September 8 and 9 Nintendo Direct double-bill roughly a week before Nintendo made the dates official through the Nintendo Today app.

The timing of the leak, two to three days before Nintendo's next scheduled broadcasts, has fueled speculation that at least some of the claims could be addressed on stage. The September 8 broadcast is a dedicated The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct running around 30 minutes, while the September 9 show is a 45-minute general Nintendo Direct focused on Switch 2 games launching this winter. A Nintendo Treehouse Live demo stream follows the September 9 Direct, running about 110 minutes. Nintendo's official archive confirms the runtimes and start times.

Nintendo has not confirmed a new Super Smash Bros. or a Nintendogs revival, and the company rarely comments on rumors. For now, both projects sit firmly in the unverified column, with the September Directs shaping up as the most likely venue for any official acknowledgment, if any is coming at all.
