Naughty Dog Wraps Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Cinematic Shoot, Hinting at a 2027 PS5 Launch

Naughty Dog has officially wrapped performance capture on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, marking the studio's first meaningful public update on the PlayStation 5 exclusive in more than a year and putting a soft timeline on what comes next.

In a post on X on August 31, 2026, Naughty Dog confirmed that the game's "cinematic shoot" is done, accompanied by a photograph of lead actor Tati Gabrielle, who plays bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, in motion-capture gear on set. The studio framed the milestone as the end of the most actor-driven phase of production, with the remaining work shifting to gameplay, post-production and engineering.

"See you, space cowboy… That is a wrap on the very ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! This cast killed it! Cannot wait to show you their incredible work when the time is right," the studio wrote.

For a Naughty Dog project, that milestone has historically been one of the closer signals to launch. The Last of Us Part 2 finished its performance capture in April 2019, roughly fourteen months before release in June 2020, while Uncharted 4 wrapped its sessions with comparable runway. Combined with recent language QA job listings for Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Korean localization — work that typically begins late in a production cycle — the wrap suggests Intergalactic is now entering its final stretch rather than its middle.

The timing is conspicuous. Sony confirmed earlier the same day that a State of Play and a State of Play Japan will air back-to-back on September 3, with the main broadcast closing on an extended Final Fantasy VII Revelation deep dive. The studio has not committed to showing Intergalactic on either broadcast, but multiple outlets are now openly speculating that this is the venue where Naughty Dog will surface new footage after staying largely quiet since the March 2024 reveal trailer.

Sony itself has still not locked a release date. Internal production timelines and reporting from Bloomberg have pointed to 2027 at the earliest, with summer 2027 emerging as the most commonly cited window. That would mirror the cadence of Naughty Dog's prior launches and line up with the studio's recently confirmed motion capture work on a separate Uncharted project featuring Robin Atkin Downes.

The cinematic shoot wrap is a development checkpoint, not a release announcement, but it is the clearest public signal yet that Intergalactic has moved from principal photography into the polishing phase. Whether Naughty Dog chooses to pair that with a September 3 reveal or save the first proper look for Tokyo Game Show later this month will be one of the more closely watched calls of Sony's fall showcase season.
