Marvel's Wolverine Goes Gold Ahead of September 15 PS5 Launch
Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment confirm Marvel's Wolverine has finished development and is ready for mass production, with a September 15 PlayStation 5 release now locked in and a new "Gold Claws" in-game unlock revealed to mark the milestone.

Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine has gone gold, meaning the action game is feature-complete and ready to head into mass production roughly three weeks before its PlayStation 5 release. Sal Romano at Gematsu was first to report the announcement on August 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT, citing the official statement from SIE and the Insomniac development team. The same milestone is being covered by Push Square, GamesRadar and Gematsu, all framing the "gone gold" news as Insomniac's official confirmation.
To mark the occasion, Insomniac shared a first look at the "Gold Claws" in-game item players will be able to unlock and equip when the game ships. Marvel's Wolverine is now locked in for a September 15 release on PlayStation 5, where the console-exclusive action game is being positioned as one of the platform's biggest single-player exclusives of the year. The September 15 date lines up with Sony's existing Fall 2026 window for the title and the Limited Edition PS5 bundle revealed earlier in August on the PlayStation Blog.
Wolverine's road to gold has been a long one. Insomniac officially announced the project in 2021, and the studio's subsequent five-year development cycle was repeatedly clouded by leaks: large chunks of early gameplay and story content surfaced online well before Insomniac was ready to show them, and the studio later confirmed that some of those leaks were tied to a major 2022 ransomware breach that also exposed material from its other projects. The "gone gold" announcement, landing roughly two and a half weeks ahead of launch, signals that the team is now firmly in polish, certification and marketing mode rather than feature work.
Marvel's Wolverine is built around Logan's signature claws and brutal, close-quarters combat, and is being developed by the same Insomniac team behind Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. With the game going gold, attention now turns to the day-one build, the promised Deluxe Edition outfits, and the Limited Edition PS5 console and DualSense controller bundle that PlayStation detailed on its official blog earlier this month. More coverage of the game's final pre-launch stretch, including hands-on impressions and review timing, is expected in the days running up to September 15.
