GTA VI: Extended Look Premieres on Netflix and YouTube Today, With New Gameplay Details From Rockstar’s Dazed Cover Story

Rockstar Games is rolling out the next official look at Grand Theft Auto VI today, August 27, with a dedicated "Extended Look" premiering first on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and then on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel six hours later at 9 p.m. ET.

The Rockstar Newswire post confirms that the showcase will be titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" and will debut on Netflix before heading to YouTube, matching the streaming-first window Rockstar announced earlier this year. The trailer lands ahead of GTA VI's November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The Netflix listing for the show sits alongside the company's newswire confirmation, and the premiere is positioned as the official follow-up to the record-breaking first GTA VI trailer from late 2023.

Fresh Gameplay Details From Dazed's Cover Story

Alongside the trailer rollout, Rockstar has shared a substantial new set of gameplay details in a cover feature with British magazine Dazed. The piece goes well beyond what was in the original reveal trailer and confirms how the game's dual-protagonist setup will actually work in practice.

According to the Dazed preview, GTA VI lets players "choose to either play as a couple, or go off and cause chaos independently." Jason and Lucia can be switched between on the fly, including during missions — Dazed describes driving toward a job as Jason and switching to Lucia in the passenger seat to scroll through the in-game phone, then swapping back as the ride turns into a chase. That makes GTA VI the first mainline entry in the series built around a playable couple as the default setup.

The preview also confirms the return of the San Andreas-style life-sim systems Rockstar has been hinting at: food affects Jason's and Lucia's weight, exercising visibly builds and tones their muscles, and going without sleep for long stretches shows up in their appearance. Rockstar North head of development Rob Nelson told Dazed the team wanted to "enable as much self-expression as possible, without losing the essence of the characters," and that the work involved a dedicated Miami research team meeting with "ex-criminals, law enforcement, club promoters, gun dealers" to bring Vice City to life.

Choice and reactivity are getting a much heavier emphasis than in past Rockstar games. Dazed writes that decisions and behaviour will shape Jason and Lucia's relationship in ways that "cut much deeper than Rockstar's previous titles or 'honour' systems," and that NPC reactions change based on what the protagonists are visibly carrying — including whether they are open-carrying a rifle on the sidewalk.

The preview also outlines how big the production has become: Rockstar's headcount has more than doubled since Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped in 2018, with a Los Angeles office now almost entirely dedicated to building GTA VI's pedestrian NPCs. The studio has hired stylists, racecar drivers and more than 50 real street artists as full-time staff, with the latter group helping design the murals inside Vice City's version of Miami's Wynwood outdoor art district.
