gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 Recap — Every Major Reveal, Trailer and Official Link

Geoff Keighley returned to the Kölnmesse stage on August 25, 2026 for another two-hour gamescom Opening Night Live, and the show delivered world premieres from Square Enix, CD Projekt RED, 4A Games, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Capcom and a stack of indie studios. Final Fantasy VII Revelation opened the night, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered stole it back, and Metro: 2039, Exodus and Ananta locked release dates before the credits rolled.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation — Spring 2027 launch window confirmed Square Enix opened ONL with a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation showing the colossal Weapons super-bosses, a Typhon summon, FITS job outfits and parachute-based open-world traversal. The game launches Spring 2027 on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered — September 29, free upgrade, plus Songs of the Past DLC in 2027 CD Projekt RED used ONL to lock The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered for a September 29, 2026 release as a free upgrade for existing owners across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and a newly added Battle.net release. The studio also confirmed a brand-new story expansion, Songs of the Past, for 2027, complete with a fresh ONL teaser.

Metro: 2039 — first story trailer and gameplay debut 4A Games debuted Metro: 2039 on the ONL stage with a first story trailer and gameplay walkthrough, confirming the studio's next return to the post-apocalyptic Moscow metro tunnels. The sequel leads the Gamescom Award 2026 nominations with five nods.

Exodus — April 7, 2027 launch and the octopus mech companion Archetype Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast locked April 7, 2027 as the launch date for Exodus, the sci-fi RPG from former BioWare developers. The new trailer introduced the octopus companion that pilots a mech suit and showed the game running on current-gen hardware.

Ananta — January 15, 2027 release on PS5, PC and mobile NetEase Games and Naked Rain pulled the curtain back on Ananta, the free-to-play urban open-world RPG previously known as Project Mugen. ONL confirmed a January 15, 2027 launch on PS5, PC, iOS and Android.

Path of Exile 2 — 1.0 release on December 11 Grinding Gear Games closed the Early Access era of Path of Exile 2 with the ONL 1.0 trailer. The full launch lands December 11 on PC, with PlayStation and Xbox console versions to follow.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword — new demo build and Oni Awakening trailer Capcom dropped Trailer 6 for Onimusha: Way of the Sword and expanded the playable demo with a new boss named Daidara. The PS5 exclusive launches September 4, 2026.

Gears of War: E-Day — first campaign gameplay from Gamescom The Coalition and Xbox showed the first Gears of War: E-Day campaign mission from Gamescom, sending Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago into a tense Kalona encounter against smarter Locust drones. Xbox Wire's hands-on preview is live.

Rainbow Six Tactics — single-player spin-off for 2027 Ubisoft unveiled Rainbow Six Tactics, a single-player turn-based spin-off putting players in command of Six and a squad of 15 Operators in a destructible-environment experience. It launches 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, GeForce Now, Blacknut and PC.

Stage Tour — December 10 launch, RedOctane's Guitar Hero heir RedOctane Games locked in December 10, 2026 for Stage Tour, the spiritual successor to Guitar Hero. The ONL reveal confirmed a 90-plus song setlist, a Gibson guitar partnership with 180 unlockable axes and a new CRKD-made controller line. Stage Tour lands on PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 — Bandai Namco's standalone ONL reveal Bandai Namco used the gamescom stage to announce Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, the next entry in the Xenoverse franchise, with a playable build on the show floor and a dedicated news post on the European Bandai Namco site.

Paradox: Afterworld — post-apocalyptic grand strategy Paradox Development Studio officially unveiled Afterworld, its first non-historical grand strategy game in a decade, led by former Hearts of Iron 4 director Dan Lind. Set in post-apocalyptic North America, the tribe-led survival title is Paradox's most ambitious detour yet.
