Final Fantasy VII Revelation Locks April 8, 2027 Release at State of Play, Closing Square Enix's Remake Trilogy
Square Enix confirmed Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027 on PS5 during today's PlayStation State of Play, ending the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy with a vast open-world finale featuring Cid Highwind, Vincent Valentine, and the new FITS class system.

Square Enix has set Final Fantasy VII Revelation for an April 8, 2027 launch on PlayStation 5, locking the release date during today's PlayStation State of Play broadcast and closing out the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy with a vast open-world finale.
The confirmation came from Square Enix Senior Marketing Manager Zorine Te on the PlayStation Blog, alongside roughly ten minutes of new gameplay that frames Revelation as the most ambitious entry yet in the multi-part reimagining of the 1997 original. Cloud and company will return to a planet-scale world, with the iconic Highwind airship returning as the central traversal hub after players free it from Rockettown.
Two long-requested characters are joining the playable roster. Cid Highwind, the pilot who has appeared throughout the trilogy in supporting roles, becomes a fully controllable party member for the first time, and Vincent Valentine — last seen in playable form in the original 1997 release — finally joins the main cast. Players will also be able to switch party members instantly while exploring the open world, with a grappling gun added for faster rooftop traversal in Midgar.
Combat expands through the new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or FITS, system. Four specialised suits — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner — alter a character's abilities and appearance, letting players reshape each party member's role mid-battle. The State of Play footage showed Cid wearing the Knight FITS and Vincent using the Summoner set, with Square Enix emphasising that the suit choices change more than stats, dressing each character with a new look in the process.
Exploration also leans on Piko, the chocobo companion who can be ridden and who fights alongside the party, growing stronger as the story progresses. Square Enix framed the chocobo as a traversal and combat partner rather than a purely cosmetic feature, with new abilities tied to the Highwind's expanded map.
Quests can be assigned to different party members, and Square Enix confirmed that those choices will branch individual story scenes and side scenarios. Queen's Blood, the card minigame introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, returns with a dedicated Red XIII-focused campaign and opponents designed to break established strategies.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches first on PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027, with Square Enix confirming the same date for the physical release. Pre-orders are open on the PlayStation Store, with bonus Summoning Materia tied to PS5 save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. A Story Expansion Pass is also available, adding two downloadable story expansions — one centred on Sephiroth and one on Vincent and the Turks — planned for release between winter 2027 and spring 2028.
The announcement closes a years-long question about when Square Enix would put a date on the trilogy's finale, and arrives ahead of today's follow-up State of Play Japan broadcast and Konami's own Press Start showcase airing later the same day.
