Exodus Locks April 7, 2027 Release Date With Octopus Mech Companion at Gamescom Opening Night Live

Exodus, the long-awaited sci-fi role-playing game from Wizards of the Coast–owned Archetype Entertainment, finally has a release date. The studio and publisher confirmed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 that the Mass Effect–inspired RPG will launch on April 7, 2027 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the PlayStation Blog also locking in the same date in its dedicated ONL highlights roundup.

Originally founded by James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn, two veterans of BioWare's classic Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect teams, Archetype Entertainment first unveiled Exodus as part of The Game Awards showcase in late 2023. The project has been positioned as a story-driven, single-player sci-fi RPG in which humanity's remnants are scattered across a hostile galaxy. Players assume the role of a Traveler, a weaponised agent of the augmentation programme, working through a branching campaign that mixes squad-based combat with a roster of companions.

The Gamescom showing put one of the project's signature companions in the spotlight: an octopus-like creature that, in the new footage, pilots a mech suit alongside the player character. The studio has been quietly building up the game's companion roster and creature design since its reveal, leaning on the unusual biology of its alien species to differentiate the moment-to-moment combat and exploration from other third-person sci-fi RPGs on the market.

Exodus will also feature cross-gen progression and platform-specific enhancements on consoles, with the studio targeting the same feature set across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. The April 7, 2027 date lands in a busy spring window for major RPG releases, putting Exodus in direct conversation with the second half of CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 4 launch window and several other high-profile 2027 role-playing titles.
