EVERSPACE 2 Lands Free 'Final' Technical Update With Steam Deck Verification and Console Optimisation
ROCKFISH Games ships what it calls the last EVERSPACE 2 update, pushing Steam Deck Verified status, Xbox Series S performance fixes and Switch-2-era bug work to PC, PS5 and Xbox.

ROCKFISH Games has rolled out the free, console-agnostic final technical update for EVERSPACE 2 across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 1, 2026, capping eight years of development on the open-world space action RPG. The Hamburg studio confirmed the patch in an official press release distributed via Games Press on the same day and announced it as the studio's farewell to active support for the title.
According to the official release, the update promotes EVERSPACE 2 on PC to Steam Deck Verified status for the first time, with new handheld-specific UI changes that improve text readability on Valve's portable. The patch also lifts Xbox Series S performance, drawing on the optimisations the team built during the recent Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game. Bug fixes and minor quality-of-life adjustments that originated on Switch 2 carry back over to every other platform in the same build, the studio said, and a special Steam sale is live across the EVERSPACE franchise to mark the release.
"This technical update caps off an eight year journey with EVERSPACE 2," ROCKFISH Games CEO and co-founder Michael Schade said in the statement. "Our vision for an open world spaceship action RPG began alongside the founding of our studio more than a decade ago and was realized in this ambitious project." Schade also positioned the update as a turning point, telling fans that "the team here at ROCKFISH is turning their attention back to the future" and warning that, "barring potential hotfixes and a few console-specific changes, this will be the final update for EVERSPACE 2."
Schade stopped short of confirming the next game in the franchise but made clear that the studio is already building it, with the release noting that ROCKFISH recently received an eight million euro grant from the German federal government to develop a new title within the EVERSPACE universe. "We're not done telling stories in the EVERSPACE universe or creating awesome action-packed space adventures. While it will be some time before we can reveal anything about our new game, I can't wait to show our community of space game fans the incredibly exciting things we've been working on," he said.
The patch lands as EVERSPACE 2 approaches its third anniversary on PC, where it has maintained a "Very Positive" aggregate user rating on Steam, and just weeks after the studio launched EVERSPACE 2 on Nintendo Switch 2. EVERSPACE 2 and its expansion EVERSPACE 2: Wrath of the Ancients are developed and published by ROCKFISH Games, fully voiced in English and German, and localised in thirteen languages.
EVERSPACE 2 is available now on PC (Steam, GOG), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. SteamDB records the build going live on September 1 at 13:52 UTC. Players looking for the full changelog can find it on the official Steam news page, and the studio's full press release is mirrored on Games Press.
