EA Motive Confirms Iron Man Game Leak, Teases 'A Lot More to Show' From the Long-Dormant Marvel Title

After nearly four years of public quiet, EA has finally broken its silence on the long-gestating single-player Iron Man game from EA Motive, but not in the way the publisher originally intended. A roughly two-and-a-half-minute gameplay clip watermarked "AUG26 TEST" spread across ResetEra, Reddit and X on Friday, August 29, showing an early build of Tony Stark flying through what appears to be Chicago, fighting ground and aerial enemies, suiting up in a workshop, and visiting a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier in the clouds. EA chose to confirm the footage rather than to take it down, posting a one-line statement on the official Marvel's Iron Man X account, which had been dormant since the page was created in 2022.

"Well, that didn't go as planned. But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we're ready," the post on @ironmangame reads. EA separately told outlets that the leaked footage is authentic, and pointed fans at the newly active account for future updates. The acknowledgement stands in sharp contrast to Rockstar's heavy-handed legal response to the weeks-long GTA 6 leak earlier this month, where Take-Two issued DMCA subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord to track down the leaker.

Cutscenes tease a character roster that hews closer to Marvel's comics than to the MCU, including game versions of Obadiah Stane, Madame Masque, Pepper Potts and what appears to be Henry Pym, alongside villains such as Ultron and Yellowjacket. The game is set primarily in Chicago rather than New York, with side trips to a Japan-set area and a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, according to the leaked footage.

Suit customisation also gets a major screen presence. One segment shows Tony Stark upgrading an armour set on a node-based circuit board, slotting in homing missiles, boosters and other components — a UI that fans have already compared to the in-engine inventory of Dead Space. Polygon, Mashable and IGN all confirmed the broad outlines of the footage independently, and IGN noted that EA "had no comment" on the record before sending its statement to Kotaku after the leak had already gone viral.

EA and Marvel first announced the single-player, third-person Iron Man game back in September 2022 as part of a multi-title collaboration. The project has barely been heard from since, and the long silence had fed speculation that, like the now-cancelled Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games, Motive's Iron Man had quietly run aground. Instead, the leak suggests the title is alive and moving — though no release date or window has been announced. Polygon reports that a 2027 launch is plausible given development time and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars film slate from Marvel Studios, even though Iron Man himself is not expected to appear in those movies.

By confirming the clip rather than scrubbing it, EA has turned an awkward moment into a soft marketing beat: the dormant Iron Man X account now has a first post, the project has its first public acknowledgement of progress in years, and Marvel fans finally have something tangible to react to. As IGN summed up the response, the leak "didn't go as planned" — but Marvel fans are talking about Iron Man again, on the studio's own terms, for the first time since the announcement teaser.
