Digital Legends Revealed as Switch 2 Partner Studio on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed Digital Legends Entertainment, the Barcelona-based studio behind Black Ops 6 and Warzone mobile, as the partner developer working on the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Digital Legends Revealed as Switch 2 Partner Studio on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Activision has named Digital Legends Entertainment as the partner studio co-developing the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with lead studio Infinity Ward, ending weeks of speculation about who was helping port the Modern Warfare series back to a Nintendo console for the first time in more than a decade.

The confirmation surfaced through Digital Legends' official channels on August 21 and was picked up by Nintendo Life early on August 22. The Barcelona studio, founded in 2001 and acquired by Activision in 2021, is best known for its mobile work and has already supported multiple Call of Duty releases, including Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7 and Warzone.

"We are breaking boundaries once again! Infinity Ward, in partnership with Digital Legends, is developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 natively for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the MW series to Nintendo players for the first time in more than a decade. More to come later this summer!" the studio wrote in its announcement.

The partnership line is also spelled out in Activision's official Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta guide on the Call of Duty Blog, which lists Infinity Ward and Digital Legends as the Switch 2 development team alongside additional support from Activision Central Design and Activision Central Tech.

Modern Warfare 4 is Activision's first premium Call of Duty release on a Nintendo console since the original Modern Warfare 3 shipped on Wii in 2011. The Switch 2 version is being built natively rather than via cloud streaming, putting it in the same release tier as the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC editions that launch on October 23, 2026.

The Switch 2 build skips the first weekend of the Open Beta. Pre-orders for the full game on Nintendo's new console open at 9:00 AM PT on August 26, and the Switch 2-specific Open Beta runs from August 28 through September 1, including the campaign mission "Entrenched," standard multiplayer and full crossplay with other platforms.

Digital Legends' role fits a pattern Activision has leaned on since the Activision–Microsoft deal closed. The studio has effectively become a Call of Duty support house, helping ports and live-service updates across the franchise while Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Raven continue to lead the mainline releases. Bringing them in early enough for a native Switch 2 build, rather than a later bolt-on port, signals that Activision is treating Nintendo's platform as a first-class launch target this time around.
