Albion Online Dragonfire Update Goes Live With Dragons, Ancient Lands, and a 20-Player Raid

Sandbox Interactive's free Dragonfire update lands on August 31 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Android and iOS, adding dragons to Albion's open world, a floating-island realm, and the toughest PvE fight in the MMORPG's history.

Albion Online Dragonfire Update Goes Live With Dragons, Ancient Lands, and a 20-Player Raid

Albion Online's Dragonfire update is live today, August 31, bringing dragons, the Ancient Lands, the Dragon Sanctuary raid, and a hatchable Fire Drake mount to Sandbox Interactive's free-to-play sandbox MMORPG across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Android and iOS.

Dragonfire is the headline update Sandbox Interactive has been teasing since spring. The developer officially confirmed the release date in a Steam News post titled "Dragonfire comes to Albion on August 31," and the full feature breakdown is now live on the official Dragonfire update page.

The story centers on the Ashborn, a faction whose rituals have awakened dragons from Albion's deep past. The most dangerous of those dragons is Azaryon, the Fire Dragon, who lives deep inside an ancient lair and is, in Sandbox Interactive's words, the toughest PvE encounter in the game's history. Azaryon can only be reached by clearing the new Dragon Sanctuary raid-style dungeon, which sits beyond the floating islands of the new Ancient Lands realm and is built for groups of up to 20 players. Defeating Azaryon is the only way to obtain a Drake Egg, which players can then nurture into a rideable Fire Drake mount.

Dragons are not confined to their lairs in this update. Dragon attacks can now happen anywhere in the open world, with sudden incursions on the Royal Continent and announced, large-scale attacks in the Outlands that guilds can rally to repel. The Ancient Lands themselves open through portals constructed during the earlier Keeper Uprising storyline and are home to Ashborn enemies, Drakes, a brand-new fishing node, and the ingredients used to craft new Dragon Armor sets that grant their own combat abilities.

"Dragonfire is a game-changing update that has been long requested by our community," Sandbox Interactive Game Director Moritz Bokelmann said ahead of launch. "We can't wait for players to face the new challenges, including the toughest PvE battle to date, and explore a whole new realm in the skies above Albion from 31 August."

The update also folds in long-requested quality-of-life changes: new Lore Fragments, Albion Journal missions, Resource Guardians across the open world, Destiny Board specialization node improvements, and an Armory second Metrics page with average-per-hour performance data. Sandbox Interactive is framing Dragonfire as both a major PvE moment and a foundation for the next phase of Albion Online, with the Royal Hunt creator contest running until October 12 to mark the launch.

Dragonfire is available as a free update to all Albion Online players on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store, on Xbox Series X|S, and on Android and iOS.
